It's an obvious a comedy skit to me. Claude's letter was so embarassing that he couldn't stand it.

He did say if not because of the prince, he would've take Aileen as his wife cuz she's so capable...but she replied it would be a waste to have him as husband because he's like her most trusted and capable aid or something like that....if they got married, she cant use each other the same way anymore...

In other words, she friend-zoned him, but he's not that broken up about it. Hey it's not so bad having cute friends, right?

I'm split between that(though it's far less likely, imho) and him feeling simply extremely awkward with witnessing such exchanges between a guy and the girl he might see more like a sister. So far they give off that Hori and Sengoku vibe, from Horimiya.
He said something about maybe marrying her if it weren't for Claude, but it looked more like him showing solidarity with an old friend than romantic interest.

According to the novel, he did and still kind of does. He liked her but knew to keep his distance when she was the Prince's fiancee during their school years.

It is heavily implied that he never tried for more when he could have because he was aware Aileen didn't trust him enough to be vulnerable around him. Similar as to why Claude wants to see Aileen cry (not make her cry but be trusted enough that she would lower her guard around him)

She's got Claude whiped af. Homie is down horrendous without her.

Lol I'm loving how Claude is being so open with his affections, that letter was especially funny, I can see why Aileen would have so much trouble replying to something with such passion. Isaac leaving the moment he knew what was in the letter was funny.

I'm surprised we're already in a sequel game, this show really has no brakes lol.
